Still thinking about it
All three Kingdom Rush games are basically the same kind of tower defense and are absolutely essential purchases for anyone that loves tower defense games. You simply will not find better value for money in the genre. The art is charming, the design is rational, there are plenty of strategies that will win each level (in all 3 KR games Veteran is the only difficulty that offers any resistance), and there are several small improvements and changes from the previous two (very similar) games in the series. The bottom line is that games the quality of Orcs Must Die 1/2 and all 3 Kingdom Rush games just aren't that common in the tower defense genre. I've put over 400 hours into both the original KR and KRF and I'm sure I'll put that kind of time into Origins eventually. It's great fun with very much more of the same, and sometimes, when you're a huge fan of a series, that's all you want.

If you've played Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers, you'll definitely enjoy this entry in the series too. However, where I'd give the previous two games 9 or 10 out of 10, Kingdom Rush Origins gets a 7. The reason for this is the overuse of maps with double or even triple end-points that need defending, as well as several shortcut points for enemies to go through that let them ignore defenses placed in the middle of the map. As a result, you're often forced to cluster all your defenses at the rear of the path near the end-point. This also had the unfortunate effect of forcing you to dilute your resource expenses between more towers rather than concentrate it in fewer. There are certain towers in this game I didn’t get to use much simply because I had to split the funds between 3-5 of the same type of tower rather than the 2-3 that was the norm in prior games. However, the new ideas implemented into this version of the Kingdom Rush formula are very interesting, and in certain ways give quite a bit of tactical flexibility that the prior games don’t offer. So all in all, I think it’s worth playing. I just hope that in the next games they reconsider giving so many enemies the chance to slip behind your lines and giving such a wide "area" you have to defend. Or, if they are going to continue with this trend, give the player either more gold per kill, or reduce the cost of towers to offset the demand.
