Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. The City Builder, Survival, Story mix is what kept me playing; Frostpunk knows what it wants to be. On paper it is The city builder that asks what you would sign., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. I will be back for another run.

I bounced off it twice before finally giving up. Frostpunk promises a lot with its City Builder, Survival, Story setup, but the loop wore thin quickly. It advertises The city builder that asks what you would sign.; what you get is a thinner version of that. Performance was acceptable, though the loop repeats itself well before the credits. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. Try before you buy.
