Yes, in the vanilla game you can only play songs you have as mp3's. BUT... if you go on audiosurf2.info, you can download a fan patch that lets you play any song you want off of youtube, its super easy to install and it works perfectly. If the concept of audiosurf sounds fun to you, get this one instead of the first game for the youtube patch.

The original Audiosurf is the reason I downloaded Steam
The original Audiosurf is the reason I downloaded Steam. 185 games later Audiosurf 2 is still my favorite game which I play every day. Now that the official release is out it is better in every way than the original. There is no other game out there that reacts as dynamically to music. If you like attacking scores on puzzle games like Tetris Attack, then puzzle league is for you. Play Vegas as an introduction and study how the scoring system works and you'll be hooked. If at first you can't compete then pick some obscure song that only you and a handfull of people own and capture that high score. Down the road you will get an email that someone dethroned you and you will laugh and re-attack their score. Thanks Dylan for listening to the fans and making the perfect game!

Easy recommendation
Since I have 1k hours in this game i'm going to make a bit more of an honest review about this game i'll leave the joke review I made down below though I don't know what it is with this game but it's a bit of a comfort game for me when I just want to relax and not worry about things for a while there's not really all that much to it but that's what I like about it I can relax very easily when I play this game although I do highly recommend getting the community patch so you can actually use youtube with this game (joke review I made before I had 1k+ hours in this game : 10/10 game to play when bored with nothing else to play and you want to forget about your loneliness)
