Developers have abandoned it, and betrayed the player base
Developers have abandoned it, and betrayed the player base. The DLC that was just cancelled is simply the latest in a long list of ways this title has been left to rot. I may change my review to the positive that this game deserves at some point in the future if it's ever handed over to someone who will actually give it the attention it deserves, but I doubt that will ever happen.

The AI still doesn't work on water maps
The AI still doesn't work on water maps. E.g. if you play on Ceylon, the AI stays put on their tiny starting island and stops doing anything because they run out of wood. As another example, if you play on Honshu, you can expand onto the second major island where you'll be safe for the rest of the game because the AI will never follow you there. The devs should've fixed this problem fifteen years ago. I'll update my review if/when the devs fix this problem.
