Popular Factorio Mods

Factorio is filled with different mods for you to enjoy. From new visuals to improved features and quality-of-life updates, the community has run wild with a plethora of different mods for you to choose from. Here are some of the most popular Factorio mods you won't want to play without.

If you haven't installed mods in Factorio before, be sure to check out our guide onhow to install them.

    • Visualization Mods
    • Quality of Life Mods

Gameplay Mods

These mods focus mainly on enhancing the player experience with new gameplay features such as new biomes, gameplay mechanics, and even jetpacks.

Alien Biomes

The Alien Biomes mod gives players a collection of new areas such as snowy and volcanic areas with new color pallets. It also adds shallow water where players can wade in and collect fish. It was created by user Earendel.

The Alien Biomes mod also allows for different temperature controls to give you the ability to choose which of these new biomes you want more or less frequently. This helps add more variety to what you'll find in the base Factorio.

Jetpack

The Jetpack mod made by Earendel allows players to build a Jetpack for traversing the world. You can use it to fly over water or tall buildings.

This mod features four different tiers of Jetpack, each giving you more speed and power than the last. By default, the Jetpack can only burn Rocket Fuel or Nuclear Fuel from your inventory.

AAI Industry

The Advanced Autonomous Industries mod adds a ton of new machines to Factorio as well as changes some of the properties of already existing ones. The AAI mod was created by Earendel.

AAI adds motors, powered Offshore Pumps, Burner Labs, and more. Most of the changes here offer better alternatives for your factory and allow a little more flexibility in how you want to build.

Visualization Mods

These mods change the way things in the game look. It's great for changing up what you're looking at for hours on end and can make Factorio look fresh again.

Industrial Revolution 3

The Industrial Revolution 3 mod adds hundreds of new sprites as well as all new machines, lights, vehicles, and more.

While this is much more than just a visualization mod, the sheer number of new sprites is enough to check it out. There's even an in-game manual for all of the new features and machines that Industrial Revolution 3 offers.

There are additional asset packs you can download for this mod on creatorDeadlock989's page.

Black Rubber Belts

This one is as simple as it sounds. The Black Rubber Belts mod changes all of the Conveyor Belts into black rubberized belts. Gives them a little more character than the boring grey option that the base Factorio has.

Circuit Visualizer

While this mod doesn't change the aesthetic of any pieces in Factorio, Circuit Visualizer offers a very useful feature.

By clicking on an entity and hitting the V key, you can see all of the circuits it is connected to. This allows you to understand which entities are connected to a circuit system at a glance and see if there are any mistakes or additional objects attached.

You can also change the colors of the red and green network systems if you prefer a different visual.

Quality of Life Mods

These mods focus on enhancing the player experience by adding ease-of-use options, extra information, and more.

Extended Descriptions

The Extended Descriptions mod gives players more information on tooltips, items, and recipes. This makes it easier to understand basic information about the entity and is incredibly useful for new and returning players.

Squeak Through

The Squeak Through mod allows players, well, to squeak through tight corridors. By reducing the hitbox on certain objects you'll be able to traverse around your factory without having to walk all the way around. It saves a lot of time in the end.

Auto Deconstruct

The Auto Deconstruct mod automatically deconstructs any Mining Drill that has depleted all of the resources it is drilling from. Not only does this save you time, but it also saves you valuable space by clearing up unusable Mining Drills. This gives you more time to worry about other parts of your factory instead of micromanaging drills that have run their course.

Finally launched a rocket at 120 hours. Half the fun was how wrong my early base was. Do not tear it down, build next to it and keep moving.

Tip for new players: leave yourself double the space you think you need between iron and copper. Future you will send thanks when bots have room to fly.

Trains. I avoided trains for 40 hours because signals looked scary. Now my whole base depends on a 12-train network and I cannot imagine playing without it.

The belt math in this game is a genuine rabbit hole. Started a "quick" refactor of my copper line at 9pm, looked up and it was 3am. Ratios matter more than I ever expected.
