DLC and Mod Expansions

Factorio initially launched into early access in 2020. Since then the developer Wube Software has been updating and enhancing the game. As the years went on more and more content was added to Factorio to build it out into a finished product. However, the fun doesn't stop there, as paid expansions are coming to Factorio down the line. Interested to know what DLC and mod expansions to expect in the future? Here's what they are.

Factorio DLC Roadmap

The paid expansion pack for Factorio is called Factorio: Space Age and will contain three new mod packs. The planned price for this DLC is $30.

The three new mod packs are listed below, which can be enabled or disabled at will.

    • Space Age: This brings a reworked Tech Tree and four new planets to play on.
    • Quality: This focuses on a list of balance changes such as faster Inserters, increased energy output, and more vertical growth for factories.
    • Elevated Rails: This expansion pack will allow players to build railways vertically to go above your factory.

Space Age is by far the largest of the three expansions. This directly continues the game after launching the rocket into space, which is the base goal of Factorio. You'll be able to explore planets in space, gain access to new technologies and machinery, and much much more. The planned hour count for the Space Age expansions is between 60-100 hours and it's set to release sometime in 2024.

Factorio 2.0

Factorio 2.0 is a free update to all players that will bring massive changes to the game. It includes a massive overhaul of Blueprint building. Allowing for more customization and easier controls to make using Blueprints more player-friendly and bringing in some quality-of-life options like the ability to flip fluid-based buildings. We don't know everything that will be included in this update, but there's a running list that can be found here. If you're looking for information on using Blueprints, see our guide on how to import Blueprints here.

It also brings the Factoriopedia, which shows you every item in the game, how to craft them, what they are used for, and much more. This is an incredibly helpful tool for new and returning players.

There is no current release window for Factorio 2.0

Finally launched a rocket at 120 hours. Half the fun was how wrong my early base was. Do not tear it down, build next to it and keep moving.

Tip for new players: leave yourself double the space you think you need between iron and copper. Future you will send thanks when bots have room to fly.

Trains. I avoided trains for 40 hours because signals looked scary. Now my whole base depends on a 12-train network and I cannot imagine playing without it.

The belt math in this game is a genuine rabbit hole. Started a "quick" refactor of my copper line at 9pm, looked up and it was 3am. Ratios matter more than I ever expected.
