How to Cancel Deconstruction

When building the perfect factory in Factorio, sometimes, you're going to have to deconstruct a few buildings. When you're constantly building and destroying, chances are you're going to deconstruct a thing or two by accident. Luckily, there are a few different ways to fix your mistakes or cancel deconstruction in Factorio altogether.

    • How to Cancel Deconstruction
    • How to Undo Destroying a Building

How to Cancel Deconstruction

If you've begun deconstructing buildings using the Deconstruction Planner, all you need to do is hold the Shift key while dragging over the affected area.

If you normally drag over an area with the Deconstruction Planner active, it will begin to queue up everything to be destroyed. By holding Shift, the border will turn blue and it will cancel out any queued buildings.

In the bottom right of the box, you'll see the order of the queue. This is the order in which things will be destroyed.

If you happen to do this by accident, but don't have any Construction Robots built, nothing will happen. So just hit Control + Z to undo the action and your selected area will return to normal.

How to Undo Destroying a Building

Sometimes, these things happen and you'll just need to undo your previous action. If you hit Control + Z, you can undo multiple actions. This will save you if you've accidentally deconstructed a bunch of important buildings.

It is not possible to undo the removal of objects such as trees, rocks, or other environmental items.

If you've removed a chest, all the items will be placed in your inventory, and undoing this action will not put them back in the chest. You will have to do that manually.

Finally launched a rocket at 120 hours. Half the fun was how wrong my early base was. Do not tear it down, build next to it and keep moving.

Tip for new players: leave yourself double the space you think you need between iron and copper. Future you will send thanks when bots have room to fly.

Trains. I avoided trains for 40 hours because signals looked scary. Now my whole base depends on a 12-train network and I cannot imagine playing without it.

The belt math in this game is a genuine rabbit hole. Started a "quick" refactor of my copper line at 9pm, looked up and it was 3am. Ratios matter more than I ever expected.
