Wytchwood started as a fun game in the shoes of a witch trying to collect souls to fulfill her contract
Wytchwood started as a fun game in the shoes of a witch trying to collect souls to fulfill her contract. The showplaces are very beautiful and well chosen, but the way you have to progress through the story is as others described very tedious. You run around and collect things you need to craft, or to catch or calm various monsters, but it is basically the same, just with different ingredients. I feel like I am running around a lot, just to collect the things that I need to craft, just to craft another item with that, which then will be used for another thing I need to craft.. Since it repeats itself a lot it feels like a chore and even though the story has its charm, I'm tired of the stale gameplay when it comes to getting the quest items and crafting the recipes. I'm halfway through the game, but since I know it keeps being the same as what I mentioned I am not sure if I want to finish the game. For the sake of the story, yes, but most certainly not for the gameplay that just repeats itself. Would recommend it, but I'm not looking forward to completing the game the way it is.

70% collecting ingredients, 30% quest, 100% beautiful atmosphere and art style
70% collecting ingredients, 30% quest, 100% beautiful atmosphere and art style. The perfect ratio for players who like collecting things for absolutely no reason but "maybe I'm gonna need it later, so why not?" 10/10 would collect again

This is a game that understands the quiet compulsion to got out and Collect All Of The Things
This is a game that understands the quiet compulsion to got out and Collect All Of The Things. All of the resources. All of the harvestables. All of them. Every last one. And then go reload the zone so you can do it again. It will give you a *gorgeous* world to run around in while you pick All Of The Flowers and dig up All Of The Dirt and cut All Of The Logs. When you've gathered All Of The Things and made them into All Of The New Things, it will reward you with a new set of funny dialogue, and new glorious character portraits. And then give you Even More Things to find and make and refine and turn in. All while giving you a solid story to keep the cycle feeling like it's furthering something larger than your simple need to eliminate all interactable objects from the game board. At the time of this writing, the top-rated review for this game calls it a fetch-quest simulator. That's fair, to a degree. If what I've written above sound like a tiny hell, then this is probably not the game for you. However, if you're the kind of person who finds peace in gathering up a stock of supplies--and then gets a huge burst of joy from being over-prepared for the fetch quest and being able to make the complicated object right there and then--grab this. Even at full price. It scratches all of those itches, and will look *damn* good while being there to support you and love you for your self-soothing compulsive tendencies. Be the sarcastic, no-nonsense bog witch you want to see in the world. You, too, can gather three skeeter snoots with one smoke bomb.
