I hadn't finished a RPG since Skyrim in 2012
I hadn't finished a RPG since Skyrim in 2012. Since then, I had started-and-eventually-gotten-bored with several RPGs, even some that I loved. I finished Wasteland 2 DC in 2017 and found the game outstanding. The quests, the multiple solutions, the party members, the excellent combat system, the approaches to issues, the moral dillemas, the "right" game length... it's a gem of a game.

This game has been marketed as the "spiritual successor to Fallout 2", and I can verify it is exactly that. There are quite a lot of things that bothered me about this game - things that aren't explained properly, quests that have very unintuitive or pretty much rely on luck, mechanics that could be really useful but aren't included, the somewhat pointless way skill checks work, etc. But the atmosphere and the writing are absolutely wonderful, and every quest has an interesting, meaningful story behind it. If you're looking for an old-school RPG with turn-based combat, look no further. Now, some tips to save you the trouble of having to restart: 1. Have at least 1 character with high charisma, and 1 with high intelligence (and you can give this one most of your knowledge skills). 2. Assault rifles are your bread and butter for most of the game, get at least 2 characters who can use those and combat will be much easier. 3. With the exception of Barter, every non-combat skill is important. Build you party so that you can get all of them. 4. Strength is easy to neglect if you have no melee-focused character, but don't neglect it. Throughout the game, items will get heavier and heavier, and you need to be able to carry them. 5. Toasters. Repair every toaster you see, and never sell an item you got from a toaster. This may seem ridiculous, but trust me, it's important, and you don't wanna realize this too late and have to backtrack and go over every store you've been to to try and buy them back.
