Hard to put down
An almost fully Micro RTS, kinda feels like Diablo but you're playing as 4 dudes at once at times, still really engaging regardless, the lack of Macro gives you ample space to focus and pull off some insane ♥♥♥♥

Unlike many other RTS games of the time, I genuinely believe that this game has only gotten better with age
Unlike many other RTS games of the time, I genuinely believe that this game has only gotten better with age. This game is much slower paced than most other RTS games, allowing me precious moments to read what's happening on the battlefield and react accordingly. Not only that but I do really appreciate the different approach this game offers to how units are managed. The result makes it feel like it's more of a real time tactical strategy game with ARPG elements. As a fan of both tactics and RPGs as well as RTS in smaller doses, the fusion of those genres that this game offers in it's ambitous campaign mode was and still is a breath of fresh air, perhaps even moreso now than ever before, because like Mechabellum, this is one of the few strategy games that helped me realized I actually do still love this genre, which when compared to games like Starcraft 2 that require a lot of constant multitasking and micromanaging, is greatly appreciated for my aging brain. On a technical level, while the UI unfortunately doesn't scale well with high resolutions, it does almost flawlessly support high framerates and resolutions and to top it all off most modern PCs should have no issue maxing out all the settings in this game, which still looks very nice to this day. I give it a 9/10.

Started with four Space Marines
Started with four Space Marines. Apparently that's enough to save an entire planet. The gameplay is different from the first Dawn of War. Less base building, more tactical combat. Take cover. Flank the enemy. Use abilities. Blow something up. Then repeat until the Emperor is satisfied. The campaign is basically four heavily armed men solving every problem by shooting it. Need to clear a building? Shoot it. Need to stop an Ork horde? Shoot them. Need to destroy a tank? Shoot it with something bigger. Surprisingly effective strategy. The squad-based gameplay makes every unit feel more important, and losing a squad actually hurts. You can't just replace everything with 30 new Space Marines and pretend nothing happened. I tried anyway. The campaign also does a good job of making your small squad feel increasingly powerful without turning every mission into a simple walk through the enemy. Gameplay verdict: Excellent tactical RTS with a strong focus on squad management, cover and abilities rather than traditional base building. It feels different from classic Dawn of War, but the combat is incredibly satisfying. 10/10. Four Space Marines entered the battlefield. Several thousand enemies did not leave it. Seems fair.
