Two Worlds II is an extremely ambitious yet janky open world RPG that tried to be the next Elder Scrolls

Two Worlds II is an extremely ambitious yet janky open world RPG that tried to be the next Elder Scrolls. It has some fascinating clever ideas but also a lot of things are either cheaply made or bursting at their seams. The first Two Worlds was already too ambitious and flawed for it, but this one takes it much further. Apart from standard adventuring you can engage in activities like being a busker playing music in settlements or just mess around with local alchemy and other crafting systems. A lot of it is superfluous but some systems like spell crafting are genuinely creative, fun to use, and stand out from other games. Other things feel like they've been added solely because Oblivion or other title had them. Combat is kinda frustrating at times. Now, the story, it's a bit of a blur, there's very generic fantasy factions involved, but what matters is that you are trying to free your sister that an evil wizard is using as a life battery or something. That's the main narrative drive, making you interact with other groups, travel across continent and all. Honestly some of the worldbuilding details like a magical disaster zone abandoned by humans are interesting but overall the world is a very generic fantasy. Art and sound-wise, it was kind a blur too. I must add though, it definitely aged worse than, say, Skyrim that was released in the same year. Some voice acting can be pretty weak. Could be worth a try bought in a sale and playing as mage, but overall it's a messy, janky experience of a game so don't expect anything stellar.

The desert part of the game is pretty great

The desert part of the game is pretty great. I fire it up every few years just to replay that area. Everything after that is very mediocre, but by that time you've probably already gotten your money's worth.
