Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks
Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Songs of Syx leans hard into Sim, Strategy, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. On paper it is Songs of Syx is a fantasy city-builder with vast battles simulating thousands, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. Songs of Syx wears its Sim, Strategy influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. The pitch — Songs of Syx is a fantasy city-builder with vast battles simulating thousands — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. Worth it, especially on sale.
