Rise to Ruins is at heart a godlike village simulator, but it also throws in plenty of familiar game play mechanics from classic real-time strategy and resource management games like Black and White, Settlers, ActRaiser and many others. It also throws in some twists by melding in some tower defense and survival elements in an attempt to create a new kind of godlike village simulator. The goal is to try to bridge the gap between the depth and complexity of traditional village simulators, the fun of godlikes and tower defense, with the simplicity of real-time strategy games. Build A Village, and Die Trying!. A major part of the game is village management, and trying to discover new and creative ways to use the tools at your disposal to keep yourself alive as long as possible while you defend your village at night from the raging hoard of monsters, and try to expand in the day time. Ill be honest
Ill be honest.. I pirated this game cuz im a broke ass piece of ♥♥♥♥. It got me really hooked to it because it offered a more streamlined experience compared to that of dwarf fortress or rimworld. In short, this game has just a perfect balance between all those hardcore, colony survival, micromanagement games. What struck me the most is that everytime i opened the pirated version of the game, i kept seeing the developer's notes saying thank you for purchasing the game as it was his dream job and after realizing he raised this game for five years... it just broke me. So now, i decided to just buy it in support of the developer. Kudos to the developer for making one heck of a game and one heck of an anti-piracy strategy.

Figured I'd toss in a positive review to offset the "game is abandoned" morons. It was fun when it was EA, it's been fun since it was released over 2 years ago, and it's still fun with the updates that were provided post release. Devs (especially small teams or in this case solo devs) don't owe us endless support and updates on a game. Post 1.0 you should expect bug fixes and previously promised content. That's it. This game is fantastic and it's an absolute steal at $15. Now it's on sale for 50% off and getting hate? Double thumbs up and I can't wait to find out what Project Mary is going to be.
