This is one of those games where I wish "Recommended (But Only On Sale)" was an option in Steam reviews

This is one of those games where I wish "Recommended (But Only On Sale)" was an option in Steam reviews. Regions of Ruin is a pleasant, if quickly repetitive timewasting sidescroller hack-and-slash RPG. It's a worthwhile game with a lot of different ideas rattling around, but the final product is a little bland and the map runs out of meaningful variety long before it runs out of locations. Also, your power level rapidly rises to gamestomping levels with the right skills until one of the latter-game ranged enemies inflicts 12 major wounds on you in 3 seconds flat because you stopped spamming dashes nonstop - the difficulty curve and general balance is completely out of whack. Regions of Ruin doesn't have many explicit BAD things about it, but it's just not the kind of game that's going to win awards for creativity; this is perhaps the very definition of a 6/10 game. Pick it up on a discount for a quick and simple fun time, but leave it for later at full price.

One of my best buys this year

A cool game made by a cool dev that made this game free because he cared for us gamers during this time of even more self isolation and social distancing. Hat's off to you, buddy. You've done us a great service and gave us quite an egg during these trying times

Overall a fun enough game, worth $12 however if you are a completionist maybe this isn't for you

Overall a fun enough game, worth $12 however if you are a completionist maybe this isn't for you. There are some large quests with EXTREMELY unclear objectives, "puzzles" which aren't puzzles you just have to wander around and screenshot the answers to keep them for later, and one PARTICULARLY RIDICLOUS JUMP QUEST HOLY CRAP SERIOUSLY. It makes no sense, is impossible to complete, and stopped me from moving forward in the game. I cannot *fathom* what went through the mind of the person who designed this puzzle and it's mechanics. This game would be waaaaaaaaay better if the dev had focused on combat and RPG mechanics instead of this stupid "puzzles". Overall, 7/10 defintely worth $12
