My daughter (age 7) was fascinated with the 'let's play' videos of this game online
My daughter (age 7) was fascinated with the 'let's play' videos of this game online. She's already a big fan of animals and science, for example Wild Kratts. We finally got this game and she's been really loving it! The game has accessable controls, and so she can figure out how to play it, and although her species usually die out pretty fast, she still has fun starting over. Her brother (age 11) also really enjoys the game, and has a lot more success. (edit/addition) After seeing comments I want to add that the breeding and resource management aspects of the game do have good educational content, and because the game is actually fun I see the young people really understanding how those things work. AND since lots of folks seem confused by mentioning children... the game is fun for adults as well. It's got a surprising amount of depth, which makes it challenging for more advanced players. I give this a thumbs up both for adults and young people.

Worth every hour
LOVE. 1. It's a full game. No partial game for full game price nonsense. But they're still improving it, wow. Seems rare these days. 2. The plot (story mode) is simple enough for the game play while still providing a goal if you want it. 3. The critters are adorable and varied. The style is visually appealing. 4. Although it's simple, it teaches some very valid concepts about population genetics. I love games that teach real life concepts. 5. I'm maybe 60 hours in and have not discovered a bug or glitch that has been the least bit frustrating. A couple tweaks to settings were all I needed (for example, I accidentally hit space bar so many times my critters starved). My biggest complaints are: 1. When managing larger groups (I had one with 67 critters) it would be nice to be able to mark a pair on the family tree, that I want to breed. So I don't need a notebook to keep track. 2. It would be nice if action point gems could be default color coordinated by gender. Or alternatively, for them to default to a selected color. 3. When in the family tree view, you can select a trait. Carriers for the trait without it expressed are marked dark blue, on a blue background. A different color would be nice. Additionally, trait selection erases black = dead. Making it a bit more difficult to figure out who can be bred to whom. Seem like minor complaints? They are. If you like strategy and think the critters are cute, you'll like this game.
