I bounced off it twice before finally giving up. The Action, Co-op, RPG side of Monster Hunter Wilds is fine on paper, but the execution felt thin after the first few hours. It advertises The biggest Monster Hunter, herds and storms included.; what you get is a thinner version of that. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. There is more content here than the price suggests. Try before you buy.

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Monster Hunter Wilds leans hard into Action, Co-op, RPG, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — The biggest Monster Hunter, herds and storms included. — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Worth it, especially on sale.

I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. Monster Hunter Wilds promises a lot with its Action, Co-op, RPG setup, but the loop wore thin quickly. What it promises (The biggest Monster Hunter, herds and storms included.) is more interesting than what it actually does moment to moment. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. Try before you buy.
