WARNING! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS GAME! The developer abandonned development on this game since June, to focus on their incoming new product (Magic Arena), so no more content will ever be added anymore. Since then, this Duels product is sort of "a walking dead", with a decreasing player base and no support. The servers are still running for the moment so you can still play with the cards already released, but that's all there is left to it. SCANDALOUSLY, THIS IS STILL NOT MADE CLEAR ON THE STEAM STORE PAGE FOR THE GAME 4 MONTHS AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT, SO SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL SPENDING MONEY ON A DYING GAME. SHAME ON YOU WOTC/HASBRO !!
Yes, I've clocked 400+ hours on this free game, and still post a negative review. Even though I actively play the game and like it, I give it negative review due to unfixed bugs and developer's attitude. Sure, all games have bugs, and sometimes they are pretty fatal, but we all live in the belief that they are unintentional and that the devs are working hard to provide us the patch as soon as possible. This is not the case with this game. They release scheduled patches, nothing bad or uncommon in that itself. They have scheduled an update once per three months. There are no hotfixes, even if the bugs are fatal. And sometimes they skip updates, because they could not meet the deadlines. Skip, not defer. "Sorry, we could not get Oath of the Planeswalkers work, we'll just release it with the next set. Oh, and we just invalidated all your decks. And broke the priority system." We are still waiting for the Dev to fix these two fatal bugs (I'm not going to rebuild my decks with the deck builder, it's awful). I know for a fact that patching competetive online free-to-play game on multiple platforms is a great effort. This is why you need to be as flexible about it as possible. You need to ditch your rigid waterfall model and scheduled updates, and start being responsive. I'll change this review to positive once they fix the known bugs and announce that they start doing hotfixes. UPDATE: With the latest update, the fatal bugs got fixed (priority works again and old decks are again playable). I still strongly object to their updating model, so the review stays negative until they announce new model. Otherwise, the game works quite nicely (minor bugs exists, but you'll get over them).
This game was abruptly discontinued without warning in June 2017, after being online for just 2 years and is now abandonware. This happened, despite the publisher: "Wizards of the Coast" claiming throughout its existence that it would be perpetual and repeatedly announcing that it would have a lifecycle of 5 years. What makes matters worse, is they were all the time developing another game to replace it in the background. Players of this game were afforded no bonuses in the replacement product for their loyalty or commitment and were simply rejected and abandoned with the fullest possible contempt. Be very wary of this company, they are unscrupulous, deceitful and devoid of any capacity or will, to treat their customers with respect or courtesy.
