Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exiling them to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to their captors, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations long perished now. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level. The game brings back the oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Exactly what I hoped for
Fans of old school CRPGs like Dungeon Master and the original Wizardry series will get their money's worth out of Legend of Grimrock. Traps, puzzles, hidden caches of treasure, resource management, multiple character team... it's all here. Challenging and unforgiving, Legend of Grimrock will teach you early to tread cautiously and save often. The game includes a dungeon editor and built-in mod support, and the LoG player community is truly incredible.

A quiet favourite
This is an oldschool feeling RPG that has you doing all of you actions on a turn by turn basis in a tile based dungeon. You are a group of criminals... you are sentenced to prison in Grimrock... try to survive and if you do. This is not for the light hearted... it will be rough. The game's core mechanics work almost flawlessly, but some of the puzzle that you have to deal with can be absurdly obtuse. The game progresses at an even pace and you have time to adjust to your new scenarios, and it can be fun to come up with very different party makeups which gives this game it's legs for multiple run throughs. Overall, I really enjoyed Legend of Grimrock, giving it a 4.5/5 as sometimes it can be fairly frustrating in a bad way. I would pay $20 to get it... but I think it is only $15 so you might as well just pick it up right now if you love oldschool RPGs.

I love playing "Legends of Grimrock"
I love playing "Legends of Grimrock". The game is a first-person, real time RPG with an interesting twist - you actually play four different characters! The story begins with your group being tossed into Mount Grimrock. Instead of dying instantly from the fall, you find yourselves at the top floor of a strange building. You must move down floor by floor, fighting monsters, finding treasures, searching for secrets, and most of all, surviving. The game balances storytelling and action, as you find notes from someone who previously made this journey. The notes provide invaluable hints to solving puzzles relevant to the main quest line. And they also help with side quests, such as finding the Sword of Nex to complete the Fighter's Challenge (neither one necessary to finish the game). I recommend this game to anyone who loves RPGs and solving puzzles.
