About Lake

It's September 1, 1986. You take on the role of forty-something Meredith Weiss, who returns from the big city to her quiet hometown. She exchanges her busy career at a software company to fill in for her dad, the local mail carrier. During her two-week stay in beautiful Providence Oaks, Oregon, she runs into a few familiar faces as well as plenty of new folk. As Meredith, you get to decide who to talk to, who to befriend and perhaps even start a romantic relationship with. Whatever happens, at the end of her stint she'll have to make up her mind: return to her demanding job in the big city, or stay in the town she grew up in? Play Lake and…. Escape to a beautiful, rustic environment without cellphones and the Internet. . Drive around the lake in your dad's trusty mail truck, or let the auto-pilot do the work. . Talk to a range of engaging characters, each with their own personalities and quirks. . Choose after-work activities: hang out with your friends, help out your neighbours or stay home and read a book. . Experience two weeks of branching story that doesn't shy away from slice-of-life themes. . Determine your own story: there are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers or endings

Lake is a very cute litte game

Lake is a very cute litte game. It's entirely unexciting, it's entirely unchallenging and it's... actually a boring game. Actually all that you do is delivering mail. There is no time limit, nothing disturbing ever happens, there ain't no drama, no robberies, no aliens. Naturally you meet the locals, you learn about their ordinary small-town stories and problems, you make a few decisions that moderately influence the progression and ending of the game, but all in all, that's it. And this is EXACTLY what I wanted from the game. I was aware of what to expect, and that's what I desired. A game to relax. Turn on the PC or Steam Deck in the evening after a long day of work, do my daily mail tour, see what happens next in the story, and then go to bed. And I loved it. It's so calm, so peaceful, so simple. No complicated key combos to learn, no fast reflexes needed. If you are up for a stressless, gentle experience, then this here is for you.

I’ve been awaiting the arrival of Lake and it didn’t live up to the hype

I’ve been awaiting the arrival of Lake and it didn’t live up to the hype. From the demo and trailer, it seemed to be a very interactive game where you delivered mails, hang out with your neighbours or explore the lakeside— sadly, the only interactions we got were controlled ones. There’s no exploring around the place after work, you mostly get two options at home - read a book or watch the TV. You do get some fun hanging out with a few of the characters (if you chose to do so) but again, it’s in a very controlled and limited setting. Some things I liked: The scenery is beautiful and it started off as a very relaxing game. I got really into it and loved driving around, familiarising with the place and each house was very detailed. Thankfully we do have fast travel points and that made it more bearable! Some things I disliked: Meredith’s speed is…too slow. There’s virtually no difference between running and walking. You only get to interact with the characters that’s already established so you can’t randomly go up to a house, knock and expect someone to be there — that made delivering parcels really boring, you just knocked and leave it on the doorstep. I wished we could have mini interactions here and there — being offered drinks or even a senior asking for help with the remote, etc. All in all, if I knew this is what I’ll get, I would have waited for it to be on sale, I don’t think it’s worth the full price.
