If you like very imaginative level design then Hob could be the perfect game for you

If you like very imaginative level design then Hob could be the perfect game for you. In terms of non-linear platform it is the equal, or possibly even better than the 3d Zelda games. The combat is just as good too. It doesn't have what I would describe as any set-piece boss battles, which could be a positive or a negative depending on how you feel about boss battles. The story is presented wordlessly and is pretty abstract. I thought it was OK, but pretty standard fare. But overall the amazing level design is the real highlight. You'll be going across the whole map, which is constantly evolving, multiple times. I even spent the extra time after completing the game to go back and try and find all the collectables, which is something I rarely do. Well done Runic Games, it's a real shame Hob is your last game.

Runic Games final creation before being shuttered by Perfect Worlds

Runic Games final creation before being shuttered by Perfect Worlds. It was this reason I hesitated buying, as I refused to let Perfect Worlds take money that Runic deserved. But after Max Schaefer's recent Twitter post, I felt I should at least experience this game they poured so much effort into. In a way, I wish I didn't, as it only serves to twist the knife a bit more. I can only imagine what Runic games had in store for this game, and the franchise as a whole. I wish they could have fixed the stability and bugs, as the people who gave negative reviews because of issues deserve to play it. Everyone deserves to play it. It's truly a wonderful experience. I don't want or really need to drone on about it's simple yet effective art style, or solid mechanics, or clever environmental puzzles. Plenty of reviews cover that. And the game is not without faults, more than the stability and bug issue. Its open design and semi non linear design can confuse and frustrate at times. And sometimes the camera can obstruct pits and objects. Thankfully it has a very forgiving checkpoint system. I just want to tell you to play this game. Experience it. Give Runic Games the credit they deserve, and let Perfect Worlds know they got rid of something special that they can never bring back. Even though PW owns the IP, their bean counters will never greenlight anything remotely similar to this game. Play this game. Then join me in the misery of knowing there will never be another Hob.

A little Zelda, a little Shadow of the Colussus

A little Zelda, a little Shadow of the Colussus. Lots of exploring, lots of head scratching, lots of backtracking, lots of jumping and falling. Played through the whole game in about 15 hours. Saw 2 endings and collected 90% of the upgrades. Had a great time.
