A lot of the negative reviews point out what I would actually highlight as being a really positive feature of this game-- you can only do so much in one day. As a person with a full-time job and other obligations, there's something really relaxing about a game I know I can log on and play for twenty to forty minutes a day and just be done. The music is soothing, the quests can be a little monotonous but are kind of exactly what I'm looking for after a long day of real life work, and the characters are great. It's not a fast moving game, and it reminds me a lot of a smaller scale Animal Crossing. If that's not what you're looking for, then you probably do want something more like Stardew Valley (which I also enjoy). If you just want a relaxing, check-in-on it kind of game with some pretty great writing and dynamics that grow over time, this is a good find. It's not perfect, it still needs some polish, but I keep logging in for my little afternoon Cozy Grove check anyway.
I don't get why people are complaining. As it says in the very description of the game: "Like Animal Crossing, Cozy Grove is synced to real world time, and provides 30-60 minutes of new quest content each day. After that, you can fish, craft and decorate to your heart's content!" You get nuggets of something new every day, but the game isn't built to be played hours and hours on end. You can spend as much time as you want on your island, but you only get so many new things and features a day. It is a special little place you return to for maybe an hour or two a day and watch it grow. This is the same mechanic as in Animal Crossing, which the game takes a lot of inspiration from. It is a different type of game which is meant to slow you down and force you to be patient. If you're not okay with this, don't buy it. But I'm okay with it! I like having something new to look forward to every day. I don't care if it "artificially slows down" the game, this is not something you speedrun in an afternoon. This is a friend who tags along for weeks on end, not an acquaintance you just see for a weekend. It gives me something to look forward to, to care for. I think that anyone, with the right attitude, can enjoy Cozy Grove. It really is cozy.
I love that it's low conflict/low stress. And cute and interactive enough that it takes my mind off of cancer. Highly recommend for anyone sick or hospitalized.
