I feel like this game has a lot of heart
I feel like this game has a lot of heart. It's heavy on the lore and it makes me believe (though I haven't gone and checked) that the lore in the game is actual slavic lore. Another focal point of this game is the story (though second to the lore, imo). The game rewards you for *actually reading* every little thing and comprehending the lore and the story. It's not for me. My feelings about this game overall are something like "I really enjoy that the game exists, but I don't want to actually play it". The actual process of building and maintaining decks, managing resources outside of the battles, and ultimately playing cards are... fine. I will say that there are some aspects of the card game that are original and fit the theme very well. Personally I play deck building games to build decks and fight. While that is a thing you do in this game, it's not the primary draw or focus. The other issue I have is that after taking a few days off, I forget all of the vocabulary and story that I need to know to answer questions correctly. Because of this, I find myself just looking at the game -- installed -- and not opening it up because I'm too anxious about either a) not knowing what I need to know or b) knowing I'll need to spend several minutes re-reading the encyclopedia entries to remember. If I'm not going to play the game, then I can't very well recommend it. That being said, even with this thumbs down review, hopefully it has provided enough of an idea of the type of game it is that somebody who would like this type of game would still go ahead and get it.

I look back now and see how much time I spent on this game
I look back now and see how much time I spent on this game. This one is going to a be a bit hit or miss and really depends on your personal tastes, I personally loved this as I have an understanding of Russian folklore and I have family in Yugoslavia which gave me a bit of personal stake and understanding. This game is in essence a card based deck builder RPG with very light elements of exploration and an emphasis on decisions and dialogue with the main character throughout the course of the game being bale to collect a fair amount of lore. This gets presented in 2 formats with one being excerpts of folk tales to the more direct breakdowns of the cultural beliefs and folklore that was the spiritual centre of the Russian peasant of the time. Before we even get to the game I enjoyed the heck out of this. Russian folklore is some of the more intricate and overlooked in general beside things like LOOK, THE TSAR HAS A BEEEEG HAT AND A SILO FULL OF VODCHKA!!!!!. The game play in of itself is fairly amusing but nothing ground breaking though it does make effort to change things up and i will say that the the boss fights are pleasantly challenging. The story and especially the visuals late game are pretty damn beautiful even though the graphics are basic. This game feels like one of those where the devs had a dream that they brought into reality against the odds and i can only imagine as I have to have done so often how epic this would have been with the budget that gets thrown into so many unfinished AAA cash cows. 8/10- Slav magic

Still thinking about it
PROS - Full Voice Acting - Gameplay Relevant Lore - Multiple Endings - Huge variety of cards - UI lets you build backup deck conformations and save them - If you die, you can restart the battle after fixing your deck and choosing new items to equip - Plot with loads of drama CONS - Despite being a roguelike, i don't think its very replayable. While I couldn't play this game for long swaths of time, I did find myself always wanting to pick it up and keep picking at the story. It's not very stressful, and the creativity and style of the slavic folklore world always made me curious to see what's next.
