Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Art of War: Red Tides wears its Strategy, Multiplayer, Co-op influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. The pitch — Art of War: Red Tides is a fair multiplayer strategy game that allows different — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. There is more content here than the price suggests. I will be back for another run.
Not a bad game, just not one I can recommend without caveats. The Strategy, Multiplayer, Co-op side of Art of War: Red Tides is fine on paper, but the execution felt thin after the first few hours. What it promises (Art of War: Red Tides is a fair multiplayer strategy game that allows different) is more interesting than what it actually does moment to moment. It asks for a lot of grinding before the interesting parts show up. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. Try before you buy.
It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Art of War: Red Tides leans hard into Strategy, Multiplayer, Co-op, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — Art of War: Red Tides is a fair multiplayer strategy game that allows different — is delivered without too much filler. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Easy recommend at full price.
