I saw the "Mixed" rating for Armello and thought that there must be multiple functional problems with the game

I saw the "Mixed" rating for Armello and thought that there must be multiple functional problems with the game. In my experience, there is only one such problem: A match might freeze/not progress to the next turn while everyone is able to emote/work all the menus. This problem has impacted a few of my games, (about 3 out of 20 matches thus far), but this can be fixed. The majority of these reviews blame one of three things that're simply necessary mechanics to make the game more like a board game. This'll be a long review/ an explanation of aspects of the game/reasons why I think many downvoters are wrong. The Dice

Overall, I can recommend this game

Overall, I can recommend this game. As a turn-based board game it does feel like it's drowning in its own complexity to start with, there's a lot going on and you WILL lose your first few games as you figure out what means what. But the game's complexity is also one of its strengths, as there's multiple ways to win and you have to carefully consider the path that works best for you and the character you're playing. The nice thing is the games are relatively short, we're not talking Civilization-level commitment, so as a result you can play a few games and pick up on the basics without sinking your life into it. I will say, the AI leaves a bit to be desired. The computer players sometimes make odd choices that result in their own deaths, but I suppose it's better that they slant more toward the losing side than feeling like they're cheating to win (which so far has not felt like the case at all.) Looking for an RPG? I will say this ISN'T for you. They say "RPG elements" in the description and I suppose in some ways that's true. However this game isn't about leveling up a character through to the end but making the smartest choices based on the items, spells, characters, and circumstances at hand - and that can change pretty significantly even every couple turns. I enjoy it. It won't become a shining staple in my library, but it's well designed, plays well, and does leave you with that "just one more game" feeling like any good board game should.

This is one of my favorite games!

This is one of my favorite games! I love the board-game/RPG inspired gameplay. The tutorial does a great job of introducing the player to the main mechanics at a good pace. I really like the concept of multiple ways to win the game, leading to even more neat strategies for players to come up with. It's a creative twist on a long-standing concept. One thing to keep in mind is that a play session can sometimes run about an hour, but not always, and I actually prefer being able to sit down and play a game for a long time. I would definitely recommend Armello.
