It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. The Metroidvania, Puzzle, Pixel mix is what kept me playing; Animal Well knows what it wants to be. It helps that the premise (A tiny metroidvania with bottomless secrets.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Easy recommend at full price.

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Animal Well leans hard into Metroidvania, Puzzle, Pixel, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — A tiny metroidvania with bottomless secrets. — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Worth it, especially on sale.
