Grand Gate Walkthrough
The Grand Gate serves as a hub connecting several areas of Act 2, with the main path towards the Blasted Steps. There isn't much to this area initially, but it does serve as a key landmark in Pharloom, and there are some areas you can explore here that lead into additional locales.

Moving the Flea Caravan
As you move into the Grand Gate, it's worth noting that doing so will unlock the ability for the Flea Caravan to make its second journey from Greymoor: this time to the Grand Gate entrance where you recently defeated the Last Judge.
If you've been following along with our walkthrough and have been diligent in finding wayward Lost Fleas -- including one in The Slab when making your prison escape, and the scheming flea Kratt who was stuck high above Greymoor near the entrance to Sinner's Road -- you should have at least 15 Lost Fleas assembled. If you return to the Fleamaster in Greymoor, he'll ask if you want to journey with the caravan back up to the Grand Gate. (If you haven't found 15 yet, you may have to wait until making it to the Choral Chambers before you'll have another chance to gain more Fleas and head back to Greymoor).
- See our full list of Lost Flea Locations here!
Any additional Fleas you have found will result in new rewards from the Caravan once it reaches the Grand Gate, including a new Spool Fragment the Fleas found for you, as well as two achievements or trophies. Keep in mind that Moorwing also now spawns in the room above where the Flea Caravan is in Greymoor, so you can fight it.

From the entrance to the Grand Gate, continue to the right and interact with the centrepiece in the middle of the room. Here you can buy the Grand Gate map for 40 Rosary Beads. This isn't the most important map to grab, as the Grand Gate is quite a limited area. But it is worth getting when you have the spare Beads.
The large room in which you find yourself has one major item to collect before continuing on, as well as an optional hidden shortcut.
To reach the top of the Grand Gate's main room, you'll need to navigate a platforming challenge in the form of a series of scale-like connected platforms that can raise or lower.
Start by looking for the lowest set of platforms, and jump and slash upward on the rightmost platform to lower the left one, and use it as stairs up to a small balcony on the right wall.
From here, jump onto the platform to the left, and glide further left to the next set of two platforms -- quickly jump upward and strike the platform directly above you to send it upward. Standing on the right-most platform will trigger the left one to rise, which you can use to quickly jump up to a balcony ledge on the left wall.
If you struck the platforms above directly, there should now be a lowered platform that you can reach from the balcony (otherwise, jump and glide right to strike at the connected platform). Climb up the stairway they've created to the next set of two platforms at the same height.
Before this platform lowers from your weight, jump up to the left to reach another set of platforms. Jump after landing on it but before it lowers, and dash across the air to the raised left-most platform and jump up to reach a second balcony ledge on the left wall.
Jump to the nearest platform to the right, and climb up to the next highest one and keep moving right. Once you reach the farthest right platform, it will raise the left-most platform up to an opening along the ceiling you can climb up using your Cling Grip. Up on the landing here, move left, and you'll find the Spool Fragment.
Grand Gate Spool FragmentGrand Gate Secret Path
Note that if you float down along the right wall after reaching the top of this entrance hall, there's an upper ledge you can land on. If you jump up and strike at the wall, you'll reveal a secret passage!
With this backroom passage unlocked, you can wall-jump up and avoid the spinning fans to find debris up along the ceiling hatch to destroy, unlocking an alternate entrance into the Choral Chambers, the big central region of The Citadel! However, we'd recommend continuing on the normal path below so you can explore The Underworks first.
Continue to the right to enter the next room and interact with the elevator switch. The elevator will slowly move downwards and stop.
Keep hitting the switch until suddenly the elevator breaks, and you will fall into the Underworks, the next main area in the game. Note that once you take this lift down, you will be unable to return to the lower areas of Pharloom until you find the next Bellway up in the Choral Chambers of the Citadel!
It may seem that with the broken lift, there's more to this region than just the one main room. In truth, there is more to the Grand Gate, but you will be unable to explore the area above the lift until much later in the game, when you've unlocked a final major ability in Act 3. The areas that can be reached later off the Grand Gate will be covered in our walkthrough forThe Old Hearts, specifically theHeart of the Woods Quest.Grand Gate| Grand Gate Checklist | |
