How to Find the Mantis Village in Hollow Knight

After unlocking the shortcut between Queen's Station and the right side of the Fungal Wastes, return to the vertical chamber to the right and continue down. Once you reach the bottom, head right. At this point, you’ll begin encountering Mantis enemy types.

Mantis Warriors utilize quick dashing attacks, then retreat slightly before attacking again. Engage them carefully, and always try to take on one at a time until you are intimately familiar with their attacks. Mantis Youths will harry you with flying dash attacks. Watch the walls and ceilings as you continue through the area to avoid being boxed in by gangs of rowdy Youths.

After dispatching (or running from) your first Mantis enemies, head into the next area.

Hollow Knight Lore

At the end of the room where you first meet the Mantis Warriors, head to the end to find a Lore stone on the wall. The message reads:

"Wanderers seeking death, welcome. May you find swift end upon our claws."

Grim.

Look for the exit at the bottom of the room. Follow the shaft down to the bottom while following the signs pointing you toward a Bench.

Hallownest Map
The first hidden Geo deposit location is at the end of the pathway, left of the second Bench sign in the shaft.

You must dispatch a Mantis Warrior and a Mantis Youth to reach the two Geo caches at the end of the corridor.

The second hidden Geo Rock you can find is just past the first deposit. Follow the path until you spot a third Bench sign.

Use the purple mushroom left of the sign to reach a room above, where you'll find a Geo Rock guarded by a single Mantis Youth.

Where to Find the Dashmaster Charm - Location

Continue following the signs until you can, at last, pop a squat on the Bench. Take a break to heal and save your progress.

Proceed through the bottom left exit and downward until you find the Dashmaster Charm sitting at the foot of a statue. Dashmaster is a two-cost Charm that lets you dash more often and dash downwards.

How to Rescue Bretta, the Lost Bug in the Fungal Wastes

Go To Map
Hallownest Map
As you descended to the room with the Dashmaster Charm, you likely saw a bug sobbing alone in a closed-off room.

This is Bretta, an awkward bug who lost her way and is in desperate need for a hero. That can be you!

To rescue Bretta in the Fungal Wastes, you need the Mantis Claw ability, found soon in the Mantis Village. Once you have it, walk left from the statue where you acquired the Dashmaster Charm and into the left-hand wall.

Doing so reveals a secret passageway to a hidden room.

Defeat the enemies in the room and then wall-jump up the wall to the left.

You'll soon hit a short ledge. Leap from the wall and Dash to the column toward the right.

Drop from the column and dash to the wall on the right side of the shaft.

Climb the shaft until you hit another overhang, then dash to the wall on the left while avoiding the explosive spore the Sporg sends your direction.

Continue climbing to the top, then go right and ride the right-hand wall down, avoiding the spikes. Dash from wall to wall, avoiding spikes, while descending.

Go right and ascend the shaft, again avoiding the spikes. Follow the path until you, at last, reach poor Bretta.

Exhaust her dialogue. She can be found again back at Dirtmouth, waiting for her tiny savior. Rescue Bretta

After claiming the Charm, head back up to the previous area and take the middle-left exit, guarded by a Mantis Warrior and several Mantis Youths. Continue left and you’ll soon arrive at Mantis Village.

How to Get the Mantis Claw in Mantis Village

Stay at floor level and proceed through to the far left side, then strike the lever on the ceiling to open a gate on the platform above.

Make your way back to the entrance of Mantis Village and, this time, take the upper set of platforms to the left side. Watch out for hiding Mantis Youths and use your air dash to cross between platforms.

Proceed to the upper-left corner of the area, through the open gate, then drop down and claim the next major item, the Mantis Claw. The Mantis Claw allows you to wall jump, granting access to areas that were once too high.

Mantis Claw

Once you have the Mantis Claw, you'll be able to explore the rest of the upper section of Mantis Village.

With the Mantis Claw acquired, you can now return to the site of the Dashmaster Charm torescue Bretta, the lost bug.

This deposit can only be accessed after getting the Mantis Claw ability. Once you get the claw, climb the shaft above it to find two Geo Rocks.

Return to the platforms you crossed earlier. Continue right, and use your new item to wall-jump up a narrow shaft above the platform where you see bug masks adorning two doors.

There are two more Geo caches to find while you make your way through the upper section of the village. The first can be found in a small area below the pathway that leads to the platforming section with spikes.

The second is just past the spikes. Drop down into the hole above the spikes and use the left column to slide down before dashing to the right. The Geo Rock is at the end of the pathway.

Hollow Knight Lore

After using the Mantis Claw to climb to the upper part of the village, look for a stone with Lore in the room just before the platformer section with the spikes. The message reads:

"The truce remains. Our vigil holds. The beasts are kept at bay."

Follow the pathway, dashing through the spiky platforming section at the top of Mantis Village to reach a lever. Activate the lever to open a large hole in the main floor of the village.

Return to ground level and jump in the new opening in the floor to descend to the lower level of the village, heading down either side and dashing to avoid the spiked pits.

Hitting the Dash button while sliding down a wall will automatically dash away from the wall. Some platforming sections in the area are made significantly easier by utilizing this technique to make much more precise maneuvers than could be made by jumpingthendashing.

Continue down, then take the first left and navigate the spiked avenues back up to the top until you reach a level unlocking a shortcut to the pit entrance.

After activating the first lever, slide down the left wall until you reach a second lever. Smack it to open the middle-left gate.

This Geo Rock can be found below the second lever on the left side of the shaft below the Mantis Village. Activate the lever and fall into the hole underneath it.

Hold right as you fall to start sliding against the right-hand column. Wall-jump on the column to reach the Geo on the other side (watch out for the spike trap!).

Hop down one more time to unlock the lowest gate on the left side.

This final Geo Rock you can find in this area can be acquired after activating the third lever on the left-hand side of the room below the Mantis Village. Throw the lever, then fall into the hole to the left. Hold the left direction to drop onto the Geo while avoiding the spikes below.

Once you've done that, hop down one more level, dispatch the Mantis Warrior, and cross over to the right side. Ascend the right side and hit the lever to unlock the bottom right gate.

Once those area gates have been opened, descend to the very bottom of the pit to challenge the Mantis Lords (boss encounter).

Defeating the Mantis Lords at this point is fairly challenging, but it awards you with one of the more universally usefulCharmsin the game, the Mark of Pride, which significantly increases the striking distance of your Nail. If you find the Mantis Lords too challenging, you can skip ahead to theCity of Tearsas soon as you have the Mantis Claw.Mantis Village Completed

Finally beat the Radiance with all bindings off. Hands shaking. Best boss fight of the decade.

If you are bouncing off the difficulty: charm builds are the real game. Quick Slash + Mark of Pride changed everything for me.

Greenpath music still lives in my head. Team Cherry did more with 15 people than most studios do with 200.
