Minecraft Live 2026 Details: New Sift Dimension, Ice Caves, and More

Sift Dimension

While it is officially debuting first in Minecraft Dungeons II, the new Sift dimension will be coming to both Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft sometime in 2027. Like the Nether and the End, the Sift will be an entirely distinct dimension to explore - marking the fourth overall in the game (including the Overworld).

Though details about what the Sift will entail are scarce, including how you access it, it's confirmed to feature multiple new biomes to explore, new mobs (both peaceful and aggressive) to encounter, and new blocks and items to discover.

Ice Cave Biome

This new underground cave biome included in the next game drop joins the dripstone, lush, and sulfur caves as something you can discover in your subterranean adventure. They will be filled with ice, calcite blocks, and the new icicles and ice crystals.

  • Grow on the ground and emit a soft light

You'll also be able to encounter the new frozen Zombie variant in this biome. When it hits you, it'll deal regular damage alongside a freezing effect. Some of them even throw ice balls, so be on the lookout!

No date or window was announced for this upcoming game drop, but with the established cadence of game drops you can expect this update to come before the end of 2026.

Nintendo Switch 2 Release

Minecraft is getting an official Switch 2 release on October 27, 2026.

Improved Creator Tools

The devs at Mojang are making an effort to improve their tools and systems to make it easier for you to create, manage, and share your game content. Details on what this entails remain vague, but fuelling creativity and community are the main goals.
