How to Reach Stone Coffin Fissure
If youhaven't been to Cerulean Coast yet,use our Map Guideto reach the coast and find theMap: Southern Shore. You should also talk to Thiollier at the Pillar Path Cross south of Castle Ensis, and progresshis questlineuntil he talks of exploring the coast.Starting from the Cerulean Coast site of grace, open your map and you should see the peninsula far to the south. Stone Coffin Fissure is found at the tip of the peninsula, so hop on Torrent and ride south.
Along the way, you can find another Miquella Cross, with a Scadutree Fragment and the Cerulean Coast Cross site of grace. These are located east of the peninsula base.
Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace Scadutree FragmentRide down to the end of the peninsula and you will see this huge hole in the ground. Approach from the northwest side and you will be able to see some ledges you can use to descend. This will lead you right to The Fissure site of grace. Enter the cave behind the grace and you will immediately find another, the Stone Coffin Fissure site of grace. Rest up, and get ready to explore the area.
Note that if you try to explore this area early - before approaching the Shadow Keep in the Scadu Altus, the entrance will be sealed by Miquella. You'll need to wait until Miquella's Great Rune is shattered before you can enter, which is why we recommend investigating after exploring part of theShadow Keep, and clearing theAncient Ruins of Rauh.Stone Coffin Fissure Walkthrough
Recommended Scadutree Blessing 6 - 8Starting from the grace, follow the cliff straight ahead. It immediately splits two ways, one path going down and the other going up.
Follow the path up, jumping across the small gaps along the way. When you reach the top, drop down to the ledge below you and keep going forward. You will encounter this new Putrescent Slime enemy. They are very weak and slow but durable, and best to just walk right past.
Jump from here down to the larger platform below you. There are more slime enemies here, run right past them and grab the item at the top of this platform, Congealed Putrescence x5. This material can also be found lying all around the cave - but be wary of falling slime that can cling to you as it drops from above!
Look down from the ledge behind the item and you will see a platform below you can use to safely drop down to a lower part of the cave. Jump down, then step to the left to grab the item behind the rock pillar, Saint Trina’s Arrow x10.
Turn around and follow the path leading downward. Here you will encounter a new enemy type, Bloodfiends. They can deal big damage with their large club, but are completely defenseless. They are highly susceptible to bleed and stagger. Strafe around them and get a backstab while they flail their club at you. Certain Bloodfiends here, like the one on the large stone coffin with the fork weapon, can also deal soporific damage that can induce sleep if you get too much of the status on you.
At the end of this path is another ledge that collapses the moment you step on it, dropping you down to a much larger platform below. This platform is covered in Bloodfiends, but they aren’t aware of your presence until you approach so try to sneak up and get the jump on them.
Start by exploring the edge of the platform to your left. You will encounter three Bloodfiends, one is patrolling the area while the other two are simply resting. Take them on one by one, then grab the item sitting on the ledge, Deep-Purple Lily x2.
Return to the middle of the platform and follow the main path forward. There are two more Bloodfiends on patrol here, and two more resting on a mound on the right. Kill all four of them, then grab the item they were guarding, a Shadow Realm Rune 3.
Look down from the mound and you will see another Miquella Cross and a grace just ahead. Run over to the cross and grab the Scadutree Fragment from the base, then activate the Fissure Cross site of grace.
Fissure Cross Scadutree FragmentFissure Cross
Ignore the path by the grace for now and instead look for this giant vertical stone coffin lodged into the pillar on your left. Approach the ledge, then carefully drop down onto the coffin. Look over the edge of the coffin and you will see some more ledges below you can safely drop to, until you reach this hidden area below the coffin.
Head into the cave underneath the coffin and immediately look left to see this item stuck in a small crevice in the side of the coffin. Jump up to this crevice to claim it, a Grave Glovewort 6.
Go down into the cave and you will see some flowers growing straight ahead. As you approach some slimes will drop from the ceiling. Ignore them and grab the items at the dead end, a Nectarblood Burgeon and the Velvet Sword of St. Trina.
Velvet Sword of St. TrinaFinally exit this cave by following the other path, which is of course riddled with more slimes. This leads to a ledge with a gravebird on it that overlooks a stone coffin platform. Kill or ignore the bird, then drop into the coffin below. There is an item directly below the ledge, a Grave Glovewort 3.
This leads us directly back to the main path, but we did miss a short section so instead warp back to the Fissure Cross grace. From here follow the path forward and drop into the stone coffins jutting out from the cliffs below. These coffins are covered in those annoying gravebird enemies.
If you get the drop on these guys it is possible to kill them before they can take flight, but once they get into the air they lash out rapidly and become hard to hit. If you have a shield this is a good time to just put it up and wait for them to come back down into your range. The good news is if you hit them out of the air they fall helplessly to the ground, letting you get a lot of attacks in.
There is no item on the higher, right coffin, but there is one item in the front of the lower, left coffin, a Grave Glovewort 2. Make your way down to the end of this coffin, which is where that hidden path would have led us to earlier. There is a sort of bridge made of coffins directly ahead, leading to a large platform on the other side of the cave wall.
As you step onto the bridge you will encounter a new enemy, a Lookout Stone that can fire a long range laser beam. You will see the Lookout standing straight up on the other side of the coffin, and if you listen you can hear when he is about to fire the beam. You can either put your shield up, or roll through the laser as you see it coming. Make your way across the coffin and kill the sniper as quickly as you can. Thankfully they tend to have a minimum range, and engaging in close combat they usually can't fire right below them.
Bad news is, of course there are two more waiting as you jump to the next coffin, which is just below the end of the one the first sniper was on. There are no items on either of these coffins, so once again just rush toward the snipers as quick as you can and take them out. This is even harder with two, since the lasers are likely firing with different timings. If you are struggling, duck down behind rocks and other pieces of the environment.
When you reach the end you can kill the first sniper, but you will need to go up the path on the right to reach the second one. You will encounter some more gravebirds along the way.
On the other end of this stone coffin is one more sniper, but we are going to ignore him for now. Look to the left and you will see this ledge with a Nectarblood Burgeon on it as well as an item, Smithing Stone 6 x2. Drop off the front of this ledge and you will be back where we killed the sniper earlier.
Go up the path to the right and you will reach another stone coffin that is covered in those explosive Stone Clusters. You need to run past all of them and grab the item near the back wall, a Grave Glovewort 8.
The Explosive Stone Clusters deal massive damage triggered by walking near them, but if you have a bow, you can easily snipe them with basic arrows and trigger their explosion from a single hit, clearing yourself a path.Backtrack to where we killed that last sniper, then make your way across the stone coffin and kill the final sniper on the other end. Look down over the ledge and you will see more cliffs below you can drop onto. There are a bunch more explosive clusters here, run past them and jump off the other side of this platform to reach a new site of grace below.
Activate the Fissure Waypoint grace, then go to the right where you will find this dead end cliff with an item hanging off of it, a Grave Glovewort 7.
Fissure Waypoint
Return to the grace and follow the path forward instead, which leads to some upward sloping cliffs. Here you will encounter skeleton enemies, both melee and ranged. Just like the ones from the base game you need to kill them, then hit their dead body one more time to finish them off.
For now though, completely ignore them and instead jump off the left side of the path and onto the pillar below you. You will find an item behind some stalagmites, the Mass of Putrescence spell.
Turn and go up the path behind you. You will encounter more skeletons lobbing firebombs, and a bunch of slimes that fall down from the ceiling. Hanging from the ledge next to the firebomb skeletons is an item, Congealed Putrescence x2. Slimes will fall down as you attempt to grab it, so look out.
Above you are even more skeletons, these ones wielding bows. Defeat or run past them to reach the very top of the cliff, which drops you into a small room back on the main path.
This room contains a giant slime enemy. This guy is the same as the smaller slimes, but with way more health. Avoid its spear stabs, and kill it with either elemental damage or bleed. There is one item behind it, Dewgem x3.
There are two paths out of this room. One leads back to the grace and skeletons, the other leads to a larger platform where you will encounter a ghostly Leonine Misbegotten. Buff up before you walk out, and get ready to battle the Misbegotten warrior.
Just like the ones from the base game, the Misbegotten here is strong and fast but lacking in defense. The safe way to counter them is simply to equip a shield with Barricade, which causes all the Misbegotten's attacks to bounce off letting you get in free attacks. Be aware, this enemy can also cast holy incantions, sending rings of light at you with a large explosion.
The other option is to simply try and overpower with him heavy attacks, staggering him until you can get a critical hit. Or, if you're clever, you can also dodge past him and jump across the gap behind him, which will often cause him to fall when trying to give chase. Whatever you choose to do, defeating him gets you the Multilayered Ring of Light spell.
This Leonine Misbegotten is more or less the final challenge of the main dungeon. Carefully make your way up the cliffs and coffins behind him and you will eventually reach another site of grace, Fissure Depths.
Directly ahead of this grace is a staircase that leads to a ledge where an NPC is crouched, looking down. His words carry a clue on where to go next: jump off this ledge into the depths below to reach the area boss.
Putrescent Knight Boss Guide
Recommended Scadutree Blessing 8 - 10So long as you talked with Thiollier before and after Miquella's Great Rune was broken, you should notice a summon sign next to the spot where you land in the boss arena. This is Thiollier, they will serve as a nice distraction and inflict poison on the boss. Feel free to take the extra help if needed.
Putrescent Knight is a classic glass cannon, wields a two handed weapon, slow powerful swings, and a relatively low health pool. The problem is the knight refuses to stay still, riding all over the battlefield on the back of its mount.
In between attacks the knight mostly rides around you, before eventually approaching you with a wide swing or slam. Keep an eye on how the knight is holding his weapon. When he takes one of his hands off the blade, he is usually about to attack (there are two attacks this doesn’t apply to, see below), and his combo is usually over when he regrabs it with both hands.
The most common is the ride by slash, where the knight rides past while taking a wide swing along the ground. He then turns around and immediately swings again. Occasionally he will add a third slash to this combo, keep an eye on his hands to see if he is preparing another swing. Dodge into the slash to avoid, and you might be able to clip him with an attack before he rides away.
When you are standing at his side the knight will execute a three hit combo. With the blade in one hand, he leans way back before taking a big swing. This first swing is VERY delayed, the second is very quick, then the third is delayed again. Stay close to the knight, roll toward him to avoid each slash, then attack before he rides away.
When the knight raises the blade high above his head vertically, he is about to do a long range slam, followed by a long range sweep. As usual, roll into both slashes to avoid them, then there is an opening for an attack as he regains his stance.
When the knight raises the weapon above his head (both hands), he is about to slam the ground in front of him. The first slam is heavily delayed, then the second is almost immediately dodge roll toward the knight to avoid both slams, then you can get in at least one attack after.
He also has two horse attacks, which he will usually do when you are standing too close to the front of him. The first is a simple hoof stomp. The horse raises its front legs, then slams them down. Dodge toward and you can get an attack afterwards.
The second is a shout, which also comes after the horse stands up. This one is tricky to avoid since it looks so similar to the stomp. Thankfully it deals negligible damage, just make sure you get up quick to avoid getting caught in the knight's next attack.
When you are a long enough distance away the knight will actually throw his weapon at you like a boomerang. You can avoid this by simply rolling through it as it approaches, though the knight will occasionally ride toward you after throwing, catch the blade as it returns, then follow up with a sweeping slash. All you need to do in this case is roll into the slash to avoid it, then you can even get an attack off after.
He also has a dash attack he will sometimes use to approach instead, holding his blade behind his back momentarily before dashing forward with a big swing. Again, simply roll into the slash as he approaches to avoid.
The knight's longest combo is his jumping slash. He leaps off his horse and into the air before slamming into the ground. When you see this jump run away to avoid the dashing slashes that follow. At this point you need to keep your eyes out for the horse, which will pop out from the ground to the left or right of you. When the horse dashes at you, avoid it by dodging toward it, THEN immediately dodge toward the knight who will dash attack toward you.
Afterwards this process repeats again: horse dash attack, knight dash attack. Once the second set of attacks is over the knight will stop and take a moment to climb back on his horse. This is your opening to get 1-2 big attacks in.
At around 60% health the knight will introduce three new attacks, all of which summon blue flames along the ground. These flames deal big damage and inflict frostbite, but can be avoided by jumping over them.
The first is the biggest and slowest. The knight will raise himself up on a pile of muck, then unleash dark tendrils that fly through the air then into the ground, becoming the flames. The pattern of the flames seems consistent: first flames go forward, then to the left and right, then forward again, then forward again. Standing way back give you more time to react to the incoming flames, but standing closer gives you an opportunity to attack the knight when the attack ends.
The second is a faster, single flame attack. The same tendrils shoot from the knights head, hitting the ground and creating a single line of flame directly at you. This one comes at you quick, so jump forward as soon as you see the flames coming to avoid getting hit. The knight often uses this one immediately after the first flame attack.
The final flame attack is a little trickier. The horse rears up on its back legs, and the knight lets loose the black tendrils. They fly outward, creating a giant ring around the knight that then collapses inward. If you are locked onto the knight this is a good time to unlock and turn around so you can see the flames coming. If you are daring and quick, you can actually hit the knight 1-2 times before the flames rush in, then jump over them just before they reach you.
The knight will mix these attacks into his regular rotation for the remainder of the fight, so as long as you can avoid these just keep up the same strategies as before.
Defeating the Putrescent Knight gets you Remembrance of Putrescence and 220,000 runes.
Putrescent KnightThe Wisdom in Saint Trina's Slumber
With the Knight defeated, a small cave is now open, leading to where Miquella disposed of his alter ego: Saint Trina. The peaceful flower-like entity sleeps in a velvety field, where you can find both St. Trina Disciple's Cookbook 3, and Trina's greatest admirer, Thiollier. They yearn to hear St. Trina's words, and warn you against partaking in the nectar given by the divine one.
If you disregard Thiollier's warning and imbibe the nectar, you'll be killed instantly. However, doing this a total of four times will prompt St. Trina to speak to you as you die. If you return to tell Thiollier of this, they will become enraged at your supposed lies, and invade you the next time to reawaken in the boss arena.
Defeat Thiollier when he invades to claim the St. Trina's Smile Talisman (but don't worry, Thiollier will go back to where you left him). Continue to imbibe the nectar a total of six times to gain St. Trina's final message, and impart this knowledge to a reluctant Thiollier. This will conclude your business here for now, but it won't be the last time you see them.
With the Stone Coffin completed, and the Finger Ruins explored nearby on behalf of Count Ymir, it's a good time to return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr to advance his questline, and continue to explore the Shadow Keep's more dangerous areas, starting with the Specimen Storage.
