Cerulean Coast - Essential Path Walkthrough

The Cerulean Coast is an optional region found in the south of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. While it is technically optional, this region is home to a major objective of Count Ymir's Sidequest, and holds the Stone Coffin Fissure "Minor" Legacy Dungeon. This page contains an essential path walkthrough and guide to the Cerulean Coast, including important character questlines, powerful blessings, items, and weapons.

Note that this page will also contain information on how to reach Charo's Hidden Grave that lies above the coast, and a few essential items to find in this hidden sub-region.

Learn more about the Cerulean Coast, the Finger Ruins, and Stone Coffin Fissure in our full walkthrough below:

Cerulean Coast Walkthrough

As an optional region, getting to the Cerulean Coast can take a bit of work as the path to it isn't obvious. Begin by warping to the Castle Front site of grace near Castle Ensis, and ride south toward the darkened path between the two cliffs. You can’t see it on the map, but there is actually a path at the end that goes under the rocks and into the poisoned region on the other side.

From there, ride north until you reach this bit of water marked on the map. Here you should see a tunnel at the base of the west side of the cliff. Ride through to find the Ellac River Cave site of grace.

From here, ride south through the river basin. This will lead you to a cliff where you need to carefully traverse some stone pillars to reach the ground below (and grab a Greater Potentate's Cookbook 12). Past the group of Gravebirds, this leads you directly to the Ellac River Downstream site of grace.

From here you once again need to carefully drop down the cliffs until you reach the river below. The forest nearby is largely devoid of enemies, but contains a few large Lightning Sheep rolling around a pond that holds the Lightning Perfume Bottle.

The southern edge of the river is where you'll find another Furnace Golem, but thankfully does not have armored legs, so if you're now confident in your golem-slaying abilities, equip some fire resistance gear and chip away at its legs until you can stagger it into falling. If you defeat it, you can claim a Furnace Visage and the Viridian Hidden Tear.

Head up the slope from the other side of the river, and you'll enter the Cerulean Coast proper, where you will find the Cerulean Coast site of grace. From here, it's a good idea to get the Map Fragment first to plan out the rest of your exploration. However, one particular enemy will seek to blockade your progress.

The map fragment can be found further to the south across a large plain of gravestones and ponds, but as you approach you'll be ambushed the a Ghostflame Dragon. This one will likely be tougher than the others you've fought, and as an added bonus can summon a horde of Skeletons to try and get in your way! If you have the strength to defeat it and avoid the ghostflame stomps and breath, you'll gain another Dragon Heart and an Ancient Somber Dragon Smithing Stone.

Defeat him or bypass him, and you'll find the Southern Shore Map Fragment not far past the dragon's lair.

Not far from the Map Fragment, you can find another Miquella Cross, with a Scadutree Fragment and the Cerulean Coast Cross site of grace. These are located east of the peninsula base.

The next important "minor" Legacy Dungeon and side quest objective are located fairly close by, but for the moment it's a good idea to explore to the north instead to find some optional important items.

If you follow the coastline to the northwest, you'll come upon more graves in an open field where several Shadow Undead weep over a large tombstone. Past them is a large withered tree where a Cemetery Shade guards a Grave Keeper's Cookbook 1.

Be sure to look down the rocks below the bluff here, and you can spot a cave entrance by the water's edge. Drop down and head west and then south through the tunnel, dodging a Giant Crayfish, and you'll come out onto a small island off the coast.

Check the hill above the cave you came out of, and you'll find the Perfumed Oil of Ranah item. This belongs to the foe waiting for you in the nearby Southern Nameless Mausoleum - the Dancer of Ranah, who will drop their weapons and armor set when defeated.

As you take the tunnel back to the mainland, head all the way east and then north to come out at the base of one of the many large stone coffins in this region, and at its top you'll find a Great Grave Glovewort. Many of the stone coffins along the Cerulean Coast will either have one of these or a Grave Glovewort 9 at their top, and are worth seeking out.

If you head north of the two large stone coffins and into a narrow ravine, you'll find the place overrun by Demi-Humans, including a Demi-Human Swordsman who will try to ambush you once you first enter their lair.

After defeating the swordsman, be sure to check the path to the right first. Though it leads to a dead end, you can find a pile of gravestones guarded by weaker Demi-Humans who guard a Spirit Sword.

Of biggest note, you can head through the ravine by traveling north and then northwest along a shallow river, where you can spot a cave on the right. Inside is a Scadutree Fragment guarded by a Demi-Human Chief. The strange blue worms in this area are also all hostile (indicated by their red tinge, similar to Spirit Jellyfish), so try not to linger too close before they detonate.

The ravine will lead out onto a beach with another stone coffin, and here you can face the Demi-Human Queen Marriga, who holds the Star-Lined Sword. Be sure to climb up the coffin after defeating her, as there's another Great Ghost Glovewort to claim.

The Finger Ruins of Rhia

Before heading to this next section, be sure to start Ymir's Questline at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in eastern Scadu Altus, as you'll need the Hole-Laden Necklace he gives.

If you inspect the Ruins Map he gave you, it may become apparent that the map looks quite similar to a fingerprint - which matches the ruins east of the Cerulean Coast as seen in the new map fragment you found.

From the Cerulean Coast Cross, start heading east over the stone coffins (and check them for two Great Grave Gloveworts) and along the beach filled with Fingercreepers. Be wary, as many of the larger ones can hide in the sand to ambush you, but they are weak to fire.

At the far eastern end of the beach, you can head north to climb a final stone coffin to survey the creepy ruins below.

Despite it's massive size, there's not actually too much to find in the ruins beyond the objective given to you by Count Ymir. The bulk of the ruins are devoid of important items or bosses, and instead holds many Fingercreepers and creepy looking Lamprey enemies that also cast magic.

Before heading down the slope into the ruins, be sure to check the plateau to the east where you'll find a Remembrance Duplication Coffin.

Your main objective here is to make it to the center of the ruins, and the biggest hurdle is one particular Lamprey enemy that will cast a pink stunning magic from afar, and try to home in on you and paralyze you while the other Lamprey tear you to pieces. Ride through on Torrent and use the ruins as cover to get close enough that you can ambush it between spell blasts.

At the center of the ruins, use the Hole-Laden Necklace on the hanging bell-like finger, and you'll be awarded a Crimson Seed Talisman +1 - as well as Count Ymir's gratitude.

Before leaving, you can check out the western side of the ruins for a slope leading up to a small enclosed area under the corpse of a large dragon. A shack can be found here with the Finger-Weaver's Cookbook 1, but otherwise its a dead end.

At this point, you can head to the southern tip of the coast past the Cerulean Coast Cross and a Troll tossing large sleep pots to find a hole in the ground.

This massive hole can be delved into to find an entrance to an optional (but important) minor Legacy Dungeon - the Stone Coffin Fissure.

Note that if you decided to explore this place early, you may find the entrance sealed by Miquella, and the barrier will only break after you approach the Shadow Keep and a Great Rune is broken. However, there is one more optional and challenging area to explore: Charo's Hidden Grave.

Charo's Hidden Grave

When viewing the map of the southern shores, you may notice a large plateau above the blue-tinged fields of the Cerulean Coast that are covered in red flowers and can't be reached normally from below. In order to find this hidden sub-region, you'll need to take a large detour.

You can find Charo's Hidden Grave by entering the Dragon's Pit mini dungeon in the southeast tip of the Gravesite Plain. If you take a brave leap into the pit, you'll find passage to the Foot of the Jagged Peak, where taking a path to the south will lead to the corpse of the gargantuan dragon you may have seen near the Finger Ruins.

Travel over the corpse and toward its feet, and you'll find the entrance to Charo's Hidden Grave. This area is much more dangerous than the Cerulean Coast below it, and you may want to come back later if you are in need of more Scadutree Fragments.

Early into this sub-region, you can find a Tibia Mariner, who may seem like a pushover, if not for the fact that it can summon a Royal Revenant instead of the usual skeletons! If you have area healing magic on hand, use it to damage the Revenant. Killing it will net you the Tibia's Cookbook.

Up on the ridge to the north of the Tibia Mariner, you can spot a giant Gravebird Statue, and its base is the Rings of Spectral Light sorcery.

The main path to the next pool of water leads to many more Gravebirds, who will be joined by a powerful Death-Rite Bird, and is able to deal massive damage with its ghostflame explosion. If you can defeat it, you'll earn a powerful Ash of War allowing you to mimic its Ghostflame attack.

Up the path northeast from the pool of water, keep exploring along the fields of red to find a path leading up to a gravesite that holds a Spirit Glaive.

Spirit Glaive

Off to the west, you'll find three distinct paths along the rest of this sub-region: Heading along the northern ridge and rivers will lead toward the Lamenter's Gaol mini-dungeon, which holds some truly bizarre enemies and rewards.

Taking the path up past where you found the Rings of Spectral Light and giant Gravebird statue lead to another large pool of water where a Hippopotamus mini-boss awaits. Like all Hippo enemies, it will drop a Scadutree Fragment upon death. Unlike the other Hippos elsewhere in the Shadow Realm, you can't summon Spirit Ashes for this one!

Charo's Hidden Grave Hippopotamus Scadutree Fragment

Finally, the far west end of Charo's Hidden Grave has the final Furnace Golem in the Shadow Realm. It's legs are heavily armored like the one near the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.

To get around this, you'll need to use a Spiritpsring Jump to get up on the ledge behind it, lure it near the ridge, and toss down Heavy Furance Pots into its top without getting killed. Defeating this final Furnace Golem will earn you the Glovewort Crystal Tear.

Once it's been defeated, search the highest peak of the western tip behind the Spiritspring Jump to find the Gravebird Ashes for you to summon.

With everything important in this region accounted for, it's time to delve into the Stone Coffin Fissure.
