PERFORMANCE IS FIXED,

PERFORMANCE IS FIXED, it was fixed many months ago, so the top review isn't accurate anymore. This game is in my top 5, and I honestly never expected it. If you like JRPG's, fluid combat, or just an intriguing story, this is it. Give it a shot, it looked subpar initially to me too.

I'm going to keep this short

I'm going to keep this short. If you're a fan of JRPGs or the Ys series, this is a must-buy game. In case you were out of the loop, the reason there are so many negative reviews is because the game was released in an unplayable state with many crashes and performance issues. As of the time of me writing this review, those issues are entirely gone. I played through the game over the course of a few weeks, and did not crash once. If you were on the fence because you were worried about these issues, worry no more, and buy.

Worth every hour

Ys VIII on PC was in a dreadful state for over 1½ years, with several graphical issues, prone to crashes, improper frame pacing, playing above 60fps made the game faster, an extremely poor AA implementation, and quite a couple of other things... If you'd ask me which platform to get the game on, I would've said PS4 no doubt, because this was the only Ys game that wasn't the definitive edition on PC, and was a big black spot compared to Xseed's ports of the earlier Ys games. That is until now. Legendary fixer Peter "Durante" Thoman and his porting company PH3 Games have stepped in and completely salvaged the port. What once was a terrible port is now a legitimately superb port. Not only were all the major problems I mentioned fixed, but they went above and beyond, enhancing the graphical capabilities even further, with higher resolution textures, pop-less draw distance, vastly superior anti-aliasing, greatly enhanced shadows, cleaner UI, and more. The madman even got (experimental) local co-op working! What once was a clear stay-away port is now an absolutely perfect port. Durante and his team deserves major creds! Oh, and the game's really great, too!
