Exactly what I hoped for
You'll spend the first few hours of this game figuring out how to take off, fly around, land, and use the different weapon types which isn't too difficult. Then you'll load up the campaign only to realize that you have no idea what you're doing, your fictional NPC wingmen will be shot down, and you can't help but feel responsible for their deaths. Then you'll splash your first jet, annihilate your first tank, and feel like a total badass, only to then be indiscriminately blown out of the sky by 3 SAMs at the same time. Then at work or school, you'll be pondering all the ways that you could have evaded those oncoming missiles, and what you would have done differently to shake that bogey off your six. Before you go to sleep at night, you'll hear the WEEWOOWEEWOO of the missile warning alarm, and realize you have developed a completely rational fear of SAM weapons systems. Then you'll play with a friend as your co-pilot and develop a bond between each other that can only be forged in heated air to air combat, even though the entire experience was virtual. Take home message: buy the game. I've seriously never had more fun playing VR. The learning curve is not steep at all, the flight model is great, the community is the best I've ever interacted with, and the mods and custom campaigns are incredibly fun.

I don't usually write reviews, but I'm going out of my way to do so here because this is a phenomenal game. First, for context: I'm a licensed ("real world") private pilot. I've also been a sim junkie since the so-called "golden age" of PC flight simulation, when I was a kid. I've been through most of the classics. And frankly, I'm not as easily impressed as this review might make you think (I could rant to you for hours about some of the design choices that were made on some other titles).
