The Bureau is a strange game
The Bureau is a strange game. It's essentially a Mass Effect game without the plot choices (save for a few near the end). The squad controls like a Mass Effect 3 squad. You order them to cover and use abilities (like warp blast and lift...). There's a main mission hub where you talk to your companions with dialogue wheels. It's Mass Effect-lite. It's pretty well made and the combat is engaging enough. I really enjoy the rare game that tries to capture cold war era America and I think The Bureau succeeds here quite well. Everything about this game is very 1962. If you like the XCOM lore or are just looking for a decent third person squad shooter to spend some time with, you could do much worse. Skip the DLC though.

Wait for a sale
It is games like this that make me wish STEAM had a "Neutral" button instead of a strict "Recommend/Don't Recommend" button. I have mixed feelings about this game, allow me to break it down like this: The Good: > Interesting story with an intriguing plot twist. > Enjoyable 1950's era environment. > Nice variety of weapons and equipment ("backpacks") to enable most any playstyle. > Graphics are decent, the game is built on the Unreal engine, its not current big budget graphics but I don't mind them. The Not-So-Good: > They tried too hard to make a tactical squad based third person shooter with cover mechanics that feels very clunky. The cover mechanic requires you to sprint at a wall and basically super-glue yourself to it. This system doesn't seem to want to let you "leave" said wall if say, a grenade is thrown at you, which happens A LOT. > The story itself is rather short, you can power through it without any trouble in a couple hours. If you are looking for a tie-in game for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, this is NOT it. This game has little-to-no relation to Enemy Unknown and contains none of the base management mechanics that Enemy Unknown has. So, in short, this game is worth a look if you get it on sale or as part of a Humble Bundle, but I just cannot recommend buying it at full price. I would put it in the $15 game bracket. Its better than bargain bin game quality but should not command a higher price than around $15.
