Space Marine 2 is the Tyranid power fantasy — swarms of thousands, a chain sword that never asks permission, and three-player co-op.
Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 wears its Action, Co-op, Multiplayer influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Chain swords, bug swarms, and the Emperor's finest.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Easy recommend at full price.
Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. The Action, Co-op, Multiplayer mix is what kept me playing; Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 knows what it wants to be. It helps that the premise (Chain swords, bug swarms, and the Emperor's finest.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Worth it, especially on sale.
I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. The Action, Co-op, Multiplayer side of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is fine on paper, but the execution felt thin after the first few hours. The idea (Chain swords, bug swarms, and the Emperor's finest.) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. Try before you buy.
