It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down
It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. The Action, Cozy, Sim mix is what kept me playing; Shieldwall knows what it wants to be. On paper it is Shieldwall is a funny third-person tactical battle simulator with strategy, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. I will be back for another run.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. Shieldwall wears its Action, Cozy, Sim influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Shieldwall is a funny third-person tactical battle simulator with strategy) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Worth it, especially on sale.

This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. If Action, Cozy, Sim is your thing, Shieldwall delivers it without much filler. It helps that the premise (Shieldwall is a funny third-person tactical battle simulator with strategy) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. I will be back for another run.
