Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Secrets of Grindea leans hard into Action, Adventure, RPG, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG with co-op support for up to 4 — is delivered without too much filler. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. I will be back for another run.
I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. If Action, Adventure, RPG is your thing, Secrets of Grindea delivers it without much filler. It helps that the premise (Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG with co-op support for up to 4) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Easy recommend at full price.
There is a good game buried in here somewhere. The Action, Adventure, RPG side of Secrets of Grindea is fine on paper, but the execution felt thin after the first few hours. What it promises (Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG with co-op support for up to 4) is more interesting than what it actually does moment to moment. Too many systems are introduced and then abandoned. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Try before you buy.
