The new Quake 1 port fails miserably at what it is supposed to do

The new Quake 1 port fails miserably at what it is supposed to do. Q1 becomes practically unplayable if your monitor is running at anything above 60 Hz. You get dropped frames, constant stuttering, and uneven frame pacing. The final episode, *Dawn of the Machine*, makes the problem even worse. Its huge and demanding levels push the engine far beyond what it seems capable of handling, resulting in constant lags and stutters. This issue has been around for roughly five years now, and somehow it still hasn't been properly fixed. From now on, I’ll probably avoid anything that has the KEX Engine label on it. I had the same kind of experience with the Doom + Doom II port.

Hard to put down

Quake has always been a great game, and the 30th anniversary Episode which came for free, is such a welcome addition. If you don't have a copy of this game, get it!
