I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed
I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. If Adventure, Survival, Sim is your thing, No Man's Sky delivers it without much filler. On paper it is Eighteen quintillion planets and the best redemption arc in games., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. Worth it, especially on sale.

Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks
Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. The Adventure, Survival, Sim mix is what kept me playing; No Man's Sky knows what it wants to be. It helps that the premise (Eighteen quintillion planets and the best redemption arc in games.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. I will be back for another run.
