Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Green Hell leans hard into Action, Adventure, Sim, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — Plunge into the open-world survival simulation set in the extreme conditions of — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. The Action, Adventure, Sim mix is what kept me playing; Green Hell knows what it wants to be. The pitch — Plunge into the open-world survival simulation set in the extreme conditions of — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. I will be back for another run.
There is a good game buried in here somewhere. Fans of Action, Adventure, Sim will recognise the pieces, though Green Hell never quite assembles them. What it promises (Plunge into the open-world survival simulation set in the extreme conditions of) is more interesting than what it actually does moment to moment. Performance was acceptable, though the loop repeats itself well before the credits. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. Not for everyone, and not for me.
