It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Gloomwood wears its Action influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Trapped in a dark, Victorian city consumed by an ancient curse, you must plan) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. There is more content here than the price suggests. Easy recommend at full price.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. Gloomwood leans hard into Action, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. On paper it is Trapped in a dark, Victorian city consumed by an ancient curse, you must plan, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
