Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Escape the Backrooms wears its Action, Multiplayer, Co-op influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. On paper it is Escape the Backrooms is a 1-4 player co-op horror exploration game. Traverse, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. I will be back for another run.

Not a bad game, just not one I can recommend without caveats. Fans of Action, Multiplayer, Co-op will recognise the pieces, though Escape the Backrooms never quite assembles them. It advertises Escape the Backrooms is a 1-4 player co-op horror exploration game. Traverse; what you get is a thinner version of that. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Wait for a deep sale.
