About BOOK OF HOURS

For fifteen centuries, Hush House was a fortress of knowledge. Until the fire. The collection is ruined, and the last Librarian is gone. Only one with your unique talents can rebuild the library, and uncover its mysteries. Enjoy the sweet peace of organising books and customising your new home, all while unpeeling centuries of history from the occult stones around you. As the newest Librarian, you've chosen solitude... but your influence extends far beyond the walls of Hush House. It's up to you to determine how history is written. BOOK OF HOURS is an elegant, melancholy, combat-free crafting RPG set in an occult library, from the creator of Fallen London, Sunless Sea and the double BAFTA-nominated Cultist Simulator. In this 20 - 40 (or 100) hour game, you'll: ◆ ACQUIRE and INVESTIGATE occult books and curiosities. ◆ CRAFT and USE inks, memories and other esoteric tools; ◆ STUDY the nine Wisdoms, and conquer the nine Elements of the Soul. ◆ GUIDE visitors who come seeking your assistance, gleaning rewards for your help with their investigations. ◆ EXPLORE the Secret Histories and the pantheon of Hours that rules them. ◆ RESTORE a vast crumbling edifice built on the foundations of

Play this game if:

Play this game if: - you liked its predecessor Cultist Simulator and want to dig deeper into its beguiling, occasionally terrifying world - you tried Cultist Simulator but were put off by the need to spin plates constantly just to stay alive (there's no real time pressure/risk of Game Over here) - you like piecing together lore from little fragments and obsessing over carefully-chosen words (but what does it mean) - you like taking notes, experimenting with odd combinations of things and feeling like a mad alchemist when it all comes together - you want to meticulously arrange and rearrange your collection of virtual books (because who can afford an actual home library these days) - you want to feel snug and warm while the wind rattles the windows Maybe don't play this game if: - you're vulnerable to "just one more turn" obsessive tendencies - you need your UIs to be super AAA slick (things are a bit fiddly, and it doesn't have Cultist Simulator's super-simple layout) - you can't stand things not being 100% predictable (crafting is 100% deterministic, but sometimes you'll just need to wait for a particular combination of elements to be available) - you want a straightforward story - there isn't really a plot as such here, but oh boy is there lore Overall I would absolutely recommend, it's an addictive, intriguing game that isn't really like anything out there, with a wonderful feeling of time and place. See you in Brancrug

Better than expected

I once left a bad review of Cultist Simulator because it made me feel very much like Brooks in Shawshank Redemption: Everything moved too fast, my boss kept yelling at me at my minimum wage job, and eventually my growing despair ended up killing me in a very sad fashion. I have always been a tiny bit sad about it because I really had this long term ambition about becoming a literal lighthouse. I am only half an hour in and this game already lets me serve tea in a little cottage, fill my inventory with books to categorize and use my vast occult talents to tell fortunes to drunk farmers. It seems a vast improvement to me.
