This game is the very definition of an abusive relationship
This game is the very definition of an abusive relationship. I love it, and it beats me. First, I'd like to point out what keeps me coming back: the personality. This game is overflowing with fun characters. I don't dislike a single one of them, and they all manage to still seem unique and distinct. Also I'm a sucker for cartoony 2d visuals. I think this game looks fantastic. Finally the music. Ohh boy the music. Every characters theme fits each character so well, and I never get tired of the rush from hearing a killing spree theme. The gameplay is also a lot of fun. I like the moba idea, but the feel of "I click here, you walk here" gameplay in most other mobas always puts me to sleep. The direct control of a character in a moba game in platforming function is spectacular and makes it much more entertaining to me than a normal moba. This game has soooo much good in it, and that's what keeps me coming back again and again. Alas, it is also riddled with poor design choices, some balance issues (thankfully it fluxuates so it's not that big of a deal), and peer to peer matchmaking. I love this game to death, but I could REALLY do without the toxic atmosphere in the community. There are nice people out there I know, but the sheer amount of butthurt acidic people sometimes makes me have to just leave the game to rest for a while. I cannot reccomend this game enough, but I do make one request... Don't be bitter. Everyone loses, and honestly you shouldn't care about how crappy your team is. We've all had our share of crap in this game, but if we got rid of the toxic atmosphere that surrounds it, it could be so much better.

Better than expected
UPDATE: Please note that this was written before the F2P release, at a time when several ignorant people were making negative impulse reviews out of spite. I've kept the full text up for posterity, but if you want a current review, just read the last paragraph. The goal of Awesomenauts going Free to Play is to get more than 500 players on at a given time. Free-to-play weekends see numbers closer to 3,000+. That means less lag, better matches, and a better game. That's the point of F2P. To give YOU a BETTER GAME that's actually WORTH the money you spent on it, not a dying cult classic with a dwindling playerbase that you've played for all of 3 hours and forgot it was even in your library until the F2P announcement when you decided to get butthurt and post a negative Steam review. If you are one of these people, I urge you to remove or revise your review. If the game goes F2P with mixed to negative reviews because of a bunch of childish, narrow-minded people who don't know the actual situation the game is in, it'll spell its death forever. Then your money will REALLY be wasted, won't it? You'll have no money AND no game. But I'm sure that $2 you spent on the game in a Steam Sale or Humble Bundle will feel super righteous then, right? Awesomenauts is a really unique and fun game with a great aesthetic and a developer that interacts with their fans. There's just nothing like it anywhere else. I paid for this game and both expansions. I have a thousand hours logged. I've got my money's worth several times over, and I want to see this game succeed so that it can become an even better experience in the future. Long live the 2D MOBA.

Hard to put down
Awesomenauts has always been a great and charming game, but it has had severe matchmaking problems caused mostly by the player base being too small. Going F2P will hopefully revive the game from the brink of death. I don't personally have any need for an offline mode, but I understand the removal of it is a big issue for many. Let's hope they will add an offline mode soon! (EDIT 3. of May 2017: They added a temporary solution for offline mode already and promised to add a better way in coming weeks!) Other things to wait for: - More unlockable cosmetics. The droppods and and portraits aren't THAT cool and there aren't that many of them. - Competent gameplay balancing. This has been one of the things Ronimo hasn't done very well in the past, I hope they've learned their lesson. - Bug fixes.
