6About Avorion
Workshop with Ship Builds and Mods. Browse the Avorion Steam Workshop for a huge selection of different ship builds, station designs, fighters, turret designs and more! There is also an ever growing selection of mods to suit your custom playstyle!. About the Game. Several hundred years ago, a cataclysmic catastrophe nearly ripped your galaxy apart - an impassable ring of torn hyperspace fabric appeared in the center of the galaxy, which normal hyperspace engines can’t overcome. . Since this Event nobody has managed to get near the central regions of the galaxy. All you know is that the Event also spawned multiple untraversable hyperspace rifts throughout the entire galaxy and that a strange race of aliens, the Xsotan, has appeared in the center. It looks like these aliens have found a way to cross over the torn hyperspace fabric, but so far nobody has managed to establish contact with them. . There are also rumors about a strange new metal called ‘Avorion’ which has appeared in the center of the galaxy around the same time as the Xsotan have arrived. Apparently, the aliens use this material to build their ships. . Start out as a nobody at the edge and work your way to the center

Awesome game, but not without its faults
Awesome game, but not without its faults. Pros: - Build your own ship, or pull one from the workshop. - Sandbox or follow the main story. - Become a mercenary, a pirate, a trader, or build an empire of your own; fly solo or build a fleet; the galaxy is your oyster. - Plenty of guns, subsystems, and parts to customize your ship(s) exactly the way you like. - Vast area to explore. - You can run it on a server to play with friends, or go single player. Cons: - A bit of a learning curve. - You should read a beginner's guide to start, and you'll probably need to go to the wiki for main story progression. In some ways it's almost too much freedom. - My only complaint when it comes to actual game-play is the awful/lazy immersion-breaking design decision to make bosses immune to all damage until you kill their escorts. On older builds they didn't have this, so I can only assume it was patched in to prevent people from using hit and run tactics to cheese missions. The problem is it's a very superficial and poorly implemented fix. Some intern just made an "if escort alive, then boss immune" statement and pushed it into production. Your auto-turrets and the rest of your fleet still target and attack the boss, essentially bashing their heads uselessly against a brick wall for the whole fight. The enemy boss will still fly around and attack you so it's not like they're in a defensive stasis or swooping in after you beat their henchmen. No dialog or notification when you kill their last escort to let you know they're vulnerable. It was a trash fix that's grossly worse than the original problem. Overall 8/10 Could be 9.5/10 if they fix the boss immunity. I'll update my review then.

Hard to put down
The beginning is the absolute SLOWEST PART OF THE GAME, so here are a few quick tips to get past the initial grind: Once you mine a moderate amount of iron (less than 10,000 will do the trick), find a SHIPYARD (the symbol is an anchor) and build a new ship. It doesn't need to be large, in fact, keeping it small will be cheaper. Set it to "MINER" in the options, and purchase the captain and crew to go along with it. When it finishes building, go into the build menu on that ship and fix a mining turret to it. Give it the order to mine in any sector that has ample iron, and it will slowly start gathering iron on its own until the sector is depleted. After that, you can build around 4 more ships, repeating this process, until you have a small fleet of miners doing all of your work for you. Upgrade their mining turrets as you can, and sell excess ore to get you enough money to do what you want. Have fun!
