Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. The Action, Adventure, MMO mix is what kept me playing; ATLAS knows what it wants to be. On paper it is Set sail for the ultimate pirate experience! Embark on a grand adventure, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. If Action, Adventure, MMO is your thing, ATLAS delivers it without much filler. On paper it is Set sail for the ultimate pirate experience! Embark on a grand adventure, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. ATLAS wears its Action, Adventure, MMO influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Set sail for the ultimate pirate experience! Embark on a grand adventure) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Worth it, especially on sale.
